Shine A Light On Slavery Day February 27th 2015

February 27th is Shine a Light on Slavery Day.

Here we are again, another February 27th and there are still people who don’t know that slavery still exists.
Tons of new organizations springing up, commercials, documentaries, heart – breaking videos, celebrities raising awareness and prayer movements… is it really possible that people don’t know?
How much more light do we have to shine on this terrible issue until people finally wake up?
With an estimated of 27 million human beings still enslaved – we have to shine brighter than ever!!!

Ergo, End It Movement‘s Shine a Light on Slavery Day.

On February 27th, people will draw a red X on their hands and post pictures of it on social media with the #enditmovement hashtag. They will wear hats with red X’s, t-shirts with red X’s, bracelets and whristbands with red X´s and much more. Online profiles will be plastered with red X´s and the #enditmovement hashtag.
People will ask questions, and those with the red X will tell them that there are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in human history, with an estimated 27 million in bondage across the globe. Men, women, and children are being exploited for manual and sexual labor against their will (some sources report the numbers went up to 29.8 million, which would be even worse), and that they will STAND UP against it.

While a red X doesn’t change the facts, it raises awareness and maybe some red X´s inspire others to investigate and get involved.

Raising awareness will not end slavery but it´s the first step – awareness must lead to action!

If you want to join thousands of freedom fighters worldwide, simply draw a red X on your hand on February 27th and share your picture on your social media, ask your family and friends to do the same – go viral.

Until a large number of people know it’s a huge issue, nothing can be done. People need to stand up and say NO MORE!

It´s really easy to show the world that you are IN IT TO END IT but our work isn´t done with a simple red X!!

A problem won´t dissapear just because everybody knows about it, you don´t have to be a genius to figure that out. There will still be work on February 28th, but what can we do once the red X on our hands is gone?

First of all, if you aren´t aware of all the sad facts about modern day slavery, i recommend you to read my article about it.

https://dinadelune.wordpress.com/2013/10/02/the-sad-facts-about-human-trafficking-why-does-modern-day-slavery-still-exist

Now that you know it, what will you do to end it?

I can tell you one thing for sure – you can´t force anyone to care. You can send them all the information neccessary, but you can´t expect them to feel the need to do something like you do. Not that i haven´t tried.. my friends and I even set up twitter trends to spread the word.

But the human mind is a mystery that sometimes leads us to the right path:

People who know but don’t really care will often learn to care when they realize how many people around them care. Sometimes an evil seems to be too big for us to make an impact and we think that our actions can´t make a difference. That´s why it´s so important to encourage others to join the fight in showing them what one single person CAN do

.
Simply put, GET INVOLVED!

By supporting the work of an End It coalition partner, anyone can become a modern day abolitionist. We can promote social justice for the most vulnerable among us. We’re all horrified, but the good news is, we don’t have to stop there. We can do something.

Today’s slaves have even less choices than you or I do, and if we cannot get a grip on the causes behind these issues it is only going to get worse, not better.

About END IT Movement:

END IT is a coalition of sixteen non-profit organizations aimed to shine a light on slavery and show the world that the practice still exists. Its members include A21Campaign, Free the Slaves, Made in A Free World, Love146, International Justice Mission (IJM), Not For Sale, Polaris Project, World Vision Acts, World Relief, Ecpat USA, The Salvation Army, HAGAR, Hope For Justice, The Exodus Road, As Our Own and Bombay Teen Challenge all of which are working around the globe to rescue, restore and prevent human trafficking. For more information about these partners, visit www.enditmovement.com.

Check their websites and learn how to get involved. Ask yourself “How much am i willing to give? Time? Money?” and find your way to use your skills for freedom.

Donate!

Every amount, no matter how small, can make a difference! Donate either directly through the EndItMovement homepage or through my personal fundraiser on CrowdRise, benefiting The A21 Campaign

But what if you actually saw a case of human trafficking?

While the victims may sometimes be kept behind locked doors, they are often hidden right in front of us at, for example, construction sites, restaurants, elder care centers, nail salons, massage studios (Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, i´m talking about “Happy Endings”) agricultural fields, hotels and motels. Victims are often too scared to reach out for help – threats of deportation and harm to the victim or their family members are usual tactics.

Here are some key red flags that could alert you to a potential trafficking situation that should be reported:

  • Living with employer
  • Poor living conditions
  • Multiple people in cramped space
  • Inability to speak to individual alone
  • Answers appear to be scripted and rehearsed
  • Employer is holding identity documents
  • Signs of physical abuse
  • Submissive or fearful
  • Unpaid or paid very little
  • Under 18 and in prostitution

If you think you discovered a trafficking situation, please don´t play the hero, you can put yourself in great danger!!

Call 911 or  1-888-3737-888  – the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, they will know what to do.

We can be the generation that ends slavery once and for all!

Why it is so important to Donate To EndIt Movement

My last blog entry showed you the sad facts about Human Trafficking.

I also mentioned the most easy way to help by voting daily for actor Nathaniel Buzolic in the BiLLe´s Celeb Charity Challenge. The Challenge has been cancelled for unknown reasons. This is truly sad but that doesn´t mean the fight is over! I have a fundraising project on CrowdRise benefiting EndIt Movement – this project is participating in the CrowdRise Holiday Challenge. Even the smallest amount donated to this cause can make a huge difference. + CrowdRise is giving away $200.000 to the Charities that raises the most!!

www.crowdrise.com/endittodayshinealightonslavery

I´ve been thinking a lot and decided to show you again WHY it is so important to donate to this cause!

I´ve met victims of sex trafficking, actually i´ve been friends with one, a sweet girl who never recovered from her traumatic experiences and commited suicide a few years ago… I´ve always asked myself what i could have done to help her but it´s too late and now the only thing i can do is to help others affected – this is why i fully support any organisation fighting against modern-day slavery!

So i have personal reasons to support this cause but why should you?- read again the terrifying facts about Human Trafficking and keep in mind that it happens everyday and everywhere, maybe somewhere close to you, maybe to someone you know…

Human Trafficking Facts:

•An estimated 2.5 million people are in forced labour (including sexual exploitation) at any given time as a result of trafficking

– California harbors 3 of the FBI’s 13 highest child sex trafficking areas on the nation: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.

– The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than any other state in the US. 15 percent of those calls are from the Dallas- Fort Worth area.

– Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year.

– Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry (behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking).

This Veterans Day!

This Veterans Day, I believe we should do more than honor and praise of the bravery and patriotism that our veterans have embodied in the past. We should take this opportunity to re-think and re-position how we are treating our veterans in the present and future!

When Does The Worst Day Of Your Life, Turn Into The Best?

Together We Heal

In sharing my story, I often mention getting arrested and having to spend 30 days in jail for drug possession. The reason I do is to bring to attention how low my life had gotten due to the sexual abuse I endured as a child. I was in so much emotional pain, the only choice I saw was to try and cover the pain by ingesting as many narcotics as I could. This led to multiple arrests and the aforementioned time incarcerated. I didn’t even know until my last arrest report came out, but I had the following drugs in my system…cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), methamphetamine (speed), GHB, ketamine, and heroin…all at the same time! It was a miracle I was even alive.

At the time of the arrests it felt like it was the worst thing that could happen to me. That is until it was clear I was going…

We demand the truth about Nadya Tolokonnikova!

We demand the truth about Nadya Tolokonnikova!

B318fa4c4deff75158ef86a16888479d

Nadya Tolokonnikova is gone.

On October 21, the jailed Pussy Riot member was taken from her prison colony in Mordovia for protesting the jail’s “slave-like” conditions by Russian authorities. While en route to a new prison, the 23-year-old disappeared — and Nadya’s family still has no proof she’s even alive.

At best, Nadya has been cut off from the outside world, the only legal way Putin has left to torture Pussy Riot and their families. At best, Nadya is mutilated or dead — and the least we’re willing to demand is answers.

Don’t let Nadya become another one of Vladimir Putin’s victims. If she’s still alive, raising our voices will help keep her that way, forcing him to reveal her whereabouts and comfort her loved ones. Don’t wait — write Putin’s government today!

PETITION TO VLADIMIR PUTIN: Tell us the truth…

The Sad Facts About Human Trafficking, Why does Modern-Day Slavery still exist?

I was shocked to find out that not only does human trafficking exist today, but there are actually more slaves than there have ever been before in the history of humanity. It’s almost incomprehensible. There are 27 million people that need to be rescued!

27 million victims of modern day slavery!!!

Before a window closes – Living with Alz and all consequences.

Grown up with grandparents and great-grandparents i consider myself a blessed person!

One of my grandpas turned 88 this spring, how awesome is that?

In his 88 years of living my grandpa had his ups and downs like we all have but his story is worth to share it with you!

He grew up very poor with 7 siblings in a small town near the french border. He turned 18 just in the middle of the 2nd World War and was called out to serve his country. No need to say how unnecessarly and cruel this war was..He was held captive in Russia for 4 long years..

Finally back in Germany he got married to his one true love – my grandma:)

They built a nice and friendly home and got two sons ( one of them should become my father years later ) Although living the classic marriage ( husband earns the money while wife takes care of home and kids) he never let my grandma or anyone else think they weren´t even! He always treated her with respect that´s why their 50th anniversary was a celebration of love and joy!

2 years ago things changed for all of us.

It started with some memory loss and then he didn´t recognize me when i visited him. My grandma told me there´s no need to worry it´s because my hair was darker and i used to live far away and couldn´t visit them as much as my other siblings could.

I changed my hair colour and moved back to my hometown to spend more time with them but it only worked for a few months before things got worse day by day.

Once my grandma ask my grandpa to get her a can to water the plants and he disappeared for over an hour. Neighbours found him downtown where he was walking around and asking for water..

Till their small town doctor figured out he was suffering from Alzheimer´s it was too late to make things undone.

With high doses of medication the process can be slow down but it´s still a daily struggle.

It breaks your heart to see the mental downfall of a person you love and admire so much and it really hurts to know that this person can´t remember who you are and what great memories you are sharing. I still love talking to him,he is such a sweet and gentle person and although he doesn´t know exactly who i am he knows i´m no threat and that´s why he stays calm and listen to me.

He still lives in his own house,my grandma cares so much about him and watches over him 24/7. He is in such a good physical shape,he could easily turn 100 and that´s the sadest part to me.

What really makes me mad is that the doctor took so long to realize what he was suffering from and that there isn´t any cure yet. That´s why i support Alzheimer´s research studies in a hope that one day other families won´t have to deal with this very mean disease!
